A Royal Spring Wedding!

The date and place have been set for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton: Friday, April 29, 2011 in Westminster Abbey. Although it took less than a week between the announcement of the royal engagement and the setting of the wedding date, for some people it felt like an eternity! Now that we all know the when and where, we can begin speculating about what this grand royal wedding is going to be like.

Spring is a very romantic and pretty time of year for a wedding. Of course the first question on everyone's mind is what will royal bride Kate Middleton choose to wear for her bridal gown and wedding jewelry? The only thing of which we can be certain is that the details of Kate's bridal gown will be guarded like a state secret! Elizabeth and David Emmanuel, the designers of Princess Diana's bridal gown, reported that they had to have a 24 hour security detail assigned to protecting the royal gown from prying eyes. With Kate Middleton already a media sensation, you can bet that the same precautions will be necessary for her bridal gown as well.

With a spring date set for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, one has to imagine that she might choose a bridal gown with a soft and romantic flavor. One could picture the chic royal bride in an elegant all-over lace gown with a long veil. Silk organza would be another beautiful option for Kate's April wedding gown. The bride's personal style leans towards clean sophisticated lines, so it is hard to imagine her wearing a frou-frou bridal gown like Princess Diana did. On the other hand, a very plain and simple gown will not do for a princess bride, so it is likely that Kate's wedding gown will be more elaborate than her everyday style. And who will get the honor of designing Kate's gown? Will it be Issa, the designer who made the gorgeous blue dress that Kate wore for the engagement interview with Prince William? Only time will tell...

It is also fun to speculate about the type of spring flowers which Kate Middleton might choose to carry in her bridal bouquet. A classic all-white bouquet would be suitable for a royal bride, perhaps with spring blossoms such as tulips and garden roses. Maybe Kate's bouquet will feature orange blossoms, as have royal brides before her. Or perhaps for her late April wedding Kate might opt for dainty white lilies-of-the-valley, which are widely associated with May ceremonies. It is a pretty safe bet that Miss Middleton's bouquet will not feature fashion-forward accents like peacock feathers which have become very popular for stylish brides. A royal wedding has an even stronger tie to tradition than a regular wedding does, after all.

There are so many other fun things about which we can guess about for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. What color will her bridesmaid dresses be? How long will the train on her bridal gown be? Will Prince William give her spectacular royal wedding jewelry to wear? And where will the royal newlyweds honeymoon? Will they return to Kenya, the site of their engagement, or perhaps head to one of the tropical spots where they have vacationed before like Mustique? During the months leading up to the grand royal wedding, we are sure to learn the answers to at least some of these questions. And as for the rest of the wedding details, the whole world will learn about them on April 29, 2011 as an estimated 1 billion people tune in to watch the royal wedding on television.
